Our little elf

Matt and I each have a Santa hat to wear around Christmas time when we get in a festive mood (such as decorating or wrapping presents). Matt wears his a lot more than I do, but none the less, we wanted Brett to have one too so that all three of us could wear one. We searched different places for one his size, but could only find adult sized ones. Finally one night we found a hat and bib Santa set at Rite Aid when we were shopping for wrapping paper. When we got home and tried the hat on him, it was almost too small!!! Humph!!!!
Oh well, it looks so adorable on him, that we put it on him anyway when we are feeling festive.

I think he looks just like a little elf in his hat, striped pants, and green socks. :)

Mommy and Winky were decorating the house for Christmas when Daddy came home and snapped this picture.

A little boy's paradise

Matt and I went Christmas shopping for Brett Saturday night. One of the things we knew we wanted to get to fill his stocking with were a bunch of little dye-cast  matchbox cars. Every little boy should have a collection of them. :) WalMart had a big bin of them on sale for 97¢ each, so we pulled our cart alongside the bin, put Brett in the bin, and let him help us pick out his stocking stuffers. He LOVED it, as you can tell from the picture below.

Anniversary/Christmas Tree

Matt surprised me for our anniversary and took the day off work. I had no idea, but he had planned out the whole day which included, but was not limited to, getting and decorating our Christmas tree with his family. Imagine my delight when I woke up on our anniversary morning and found out I could spend the whole day with my man AND get our Christmas tree all in one day! It doesn't get much better than that!! :)
I could go into every detail of the day, but instead I'll let the pictures do the talking. We had a great anniversary together.

I took my carrier to put Brett in. I didn't want to have to carry him in my arms the whole time we were looking for a Christmas tree......he is HEAVY!!!

Mama's little snuggle bug!! He was so good while we picked out our tree. He just snuggled in and enjoyed the ride on front of Mommy, looking at everything around.

Dad and Mom and Rachel found their tree shortly after we got to the Christmas tree lot. Here are Mom and Rachel cutting it down.

It took us a little longer!! We had to find the PERFECT tree, and we had to venture further into the forest to find it. There were many options, just not the perfect one for us.

But FINALLY we found the perfect one to grace our living room this year! Nice and full, no holes, and the perfect height! We claimed it as ours, and Matt cut it down.

He pulled it out of the woods to the road....

..and we began the trek back to the vehicle.
Winky enjoyed the ride! :)

There goes our tree into the "Grinch Machine." (It actually just binds it up with twine to make it easier to handle/ transport.)

The people that own the lot, make picking out a tree a fun experience. They serve cookies and hot chocolate in their little building to warm you up after you have picked out your tree. They also make little bags filled with fir needles and give one to each customer with the purchase of their tree. They smell SO good!!! Brett enjoyed helping me carry our little bag. :)

Getting a Christmas tree is tiring work!! Brett had to take a nap after all of the excitement.

After a bit of shopping in town, we headed home for supper and an evening of decorating.

Getting the ribbon on, took a little time, but it turned out perfectly! Matt figured out how to curl it with a rolling pin. :)

Watching the happenings. :)

Everybody pitched in and helped get all the decorations on, and soon it was done. Here is the finished product.

It's kind of dark, but we grabbed a quick family snapshot.

Brett wasn't quite sure what to think of the tree. He just sat in my arms and looked at it.

Thank you to everybody for making it a fun evening! And especially thank you to my man for planning out a perfect anniversary, and making sure it happened! It was special!!

Thanksgiving 2013

We hosted the family Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year, and although it was a lot of work, it was so much fun as well. I enjoyed planning the menu right down to the smallest detail (such as pickles and cranberry sauce) , shopping for all the groceries (my shopping cart was loaded high), and cooking dinner from scratch. Our friends, Seth and Rachel and their little guy, Tyler, came down the night before and spent the night. We had so much fun letting our little boys get more acquainted and doing things together with them.
Matt and Seth spent Thanksgiving morning cutting up a couple of fallen trees over at Matt's folks' house and Rachel and I looked after our babies and peeled veggies for dinner.
There were ten of us for dinner and we sat down to dinner around 1:30 and feasted on a huge turkey dinner with all the fixings.... potatoes, squash, turnip, sweet potato, peas, and corn, with stuffing, cranberry sauce, dill pickles, and a sweet  pistachio salad for side dishes. Matt's sisters and I had gotten together the day before and made five different kinds of pies for the dessert.
After dinner and cleaning up the dishes we spent the afternoon chatting and relaxing. A good time was had by all and I think the only major faux pas for the day was forgetting to serve the whipped cream with the pumpkin pie. :(   Oh well, a lesson learned for next time.

Brett and Tyler had fun spending time together. :)

Enjoying our Thanksgiving feast. (Please excuse the terrible picture of me.)

Just Brett Pics

In the last month Brett has learned to sit up quite well on the couch. Sometimes he'll just sit there and watch me work around the house. By the looks of the second picture, he has also learned song leading.  :)

Mama's little Tigger. ( His real title is Piglet....and I'm sure you all can figure out why).

Getting ready for bed one evening after church.

We are trying to teach Brett to have afternoon naps in his own bed instead of on the couch. After a long stretch of fighting sleep and wailing, I peeked into his room to find he had finally given in to sleep. Isn't he adorable?

A flannel plaid shirt, jeans, work boots, and a killer grin.....enough to make this Mama's heart skip a beat!! ;)

All bundled up to go to town on a chilly evening.

Fresh and clean from a nice warm bath. The towel is mighty tasty to a five month old boy!

So smashing in his Sunday set of threads! We finally found a shirt to match the tie Auntie Nessa and Uncle John gave him.

Daddy bought him a pair of sunglasses for being so good when he was sick with his first cold. Here he is modeling them on top of his head the night he got them.

My first car!!  We picked up this walker for him because he has pretty much outgrown the lounge he had. His feet don't touch the floor yet, but for the most part he loves it.
